I'm doing a science fair project on how liquid fabric softeners affect fabrics. I need to know of any ingredients that are harmful to us or the environment. If you know the brand(s) that use that ingredient that would be even better.

Any artificial scents could contain pthlates, but those are also found in hair care, make up, perfume, etc. The best thing to do is find a natural brand like Seventh Generation that uses natural plant aromas (think rosemary, mint, rose).
Many people are allergic to the dyes and perfumes in softeners.
