Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?

Gunpowder must have been introduced into Europe before the Black death, which occurred around 1349. Around that time, the Hundred Years' war was in progress and IIRC in 1347 the English used primitive artillery or cannons, to help subdue the walled city of Calais on the French side of the English channel. A primitive firearm, the arquebus, was also in use around then. Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?
Just barely before. The French and Brits were using guns during the 100 Years War, though usually as a novelty, with wooden barrels and stone projectiles. The Plague of 1348 was near the beginning of that series of wars. Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?
