How can I get the gunpowder out of shotgun shells without killing myself?

I want to get the gun powder out of the shotgun shell safely but I don't know how.How can I get the gunpowder out of shotgun shells without killing myself?
Just cut across the top ( Not the part with the primer) Dump out the shot, take the wadding out (the plastic thing) then pour out the gun power. The gun powder will not blow up unless it is tightly packed and sealed off in something, its just flash powder. Why do you want to do this anyways? Its a good way to get yourself or somebody else hurt? Figured I would let you know the correct way, because it sounds like you are gonna try anyways so you might as well be informed and SAFE about it. LOL its quite easy and the likely of killing urself doing so is unlikely, just get a screw driver philips or flat and press in the top of the cartridge and lever the folds out -as the shotgun cartridge is folded in-


then when u have opened in empty the bbs and go around several times to straigten the creases out with the screw driver -on the inside- and then use the screw driver to get the sobot and plug out then empty power.


its quite simple just dont go hitting the primer cap.


i have shot the primer with a rifle and shotgun before it just blew out the sides... not advisable tho.

Note cutting the very top out is ok too,just use a serated blade not just a normal knife
I usually bite down on the plastic end. This causes the crimp to come undone. Dump out the shot, then pull the plastic wad out with a pair of needle nosed pliers. Shotgun shells are harmless unless the primer is hit precisely with a sharp blow, or they are put in a fire.
you can just cut the shell with a knife, but why would you want to do that, you can buy gunpowder at most gun stores, and you can also use the red part of match heads if you dont want to get a thing of gunpowder
jusy buy some, if your in the uk you'll need a licence for gun powder but as far as i know shotgun shells use cordite or something that is actualy classed as a propellant and not an explosive so you dont need a license.
If your good you can break it with your hands. If not just cut through the plastic part of the shell with a knife, dump the shot, then collect the powder.
Open the plastic side and empty out the shot or slug. Behind a plastic cup-like thing lies the gunpowder. Just don't set off the primer, and you will be ok.
Make sure it is pointed in a safe direction and pull the trigger. As long as the muzzle is not pointed at you, you will be safe.
If you want an empty shotgun shell just fire it from a shotgun. If you want gunpowder go to a sporting goods store and buy a can.
I'd follow the method described by Okieroad, except use a pair of channel lock pliers instead of my teeth. But what would be the purpose of this exercise?

shoot the gun and keep the shell. Unless you want to keep the gunpowder, in which case i dont know
