How much should i sell gunpowder for?

I made my own gunpowder at home using the normal method of potasium nitrate, charcol etc. Some people i know have expressed intrest in buying this powder from me as it is not readly available around me town. What is a good price for me selling this?

I wouldnt think you would be able to sell it legally. You may need a licence from your local government maybe even the ATF. I personally would not chance it. Go the extra distance and buy it in town.
Can't be done legally. If caught (by any law enforcement personnel) you will be seen as a threat to local safety. You're asking for a lot more trouble than it's worth. Think about it, if anyone is willing to go through anything but legal channels, they probably aren't going to use said merchandise for anything but hurtful results. I hope you come to your senses and think better of this!
ok, i know that the only answer that you want is how much you should sell your homemade powder for, but first lets go over some other issues that would need answers. im assuming you have made blackpowder intending on using it in a muzzleloading firearm of some kind. you need to know the burn rate in order to properly use the powder. especially if your going to attempt to manufacture smokeless powder intending on using in in modern firearm reloading. you also need to know the level of corrosiveness. and you also need to know the weight per volume of your powder for precise measuring purposes. i suggest finding out how much 1 square inch weighs in grams. if you use your powder without knowing all of these factors it could result in catastrophic failure of your firearm and cause injury of death to the person using the firearm.


once you have the answers to all of those questions then you can sell it by the pound and base your price on your cost to manufacture. for instance if the materials cost you a total of 8 dollars per pound and it took you 1 hour to manufacture a pound of powder then you might sell it for 20 dollars a pound by figuring in your own labor at 12 dollars an hour. but anyone can buy reloading powder over the counter for 20 bucks a pound at any sporting goods store. and they can buy blackpowder or pyrodex for anywhere from 8-15 bucks a pound. so therefore you would need to sell your powder at a comparible price to those already available products. if there is a high demand and no available product then you can charge whatever your customers are willing to pay. so long as you dont feel guilty for hiking the prices just to make money off of people who may not have a lot of it.

I can't imagine buying ';homemade'; powder from anyone. I don't know how safe it would be or how consistent it would be. If you're going to sell it then sell it for close to the price as you would buy in a store.

Black powder is classed as a Low Explosive and requires a Federal manufacturers' license as well as permits and special insurance, above and beyond the fact you're lucky you haven't already blown yourself to Hell and gone, because this requires all kind of special equipment to do it properly and safely, dummy!


You get caught, still alive, and its' worth about 10 years and ten grand in fines!
