How do I turn soil into gunpowder?

I am a high school Chemistry student and for half of our final lab we must extract calcium nitrate from soil, convert it into potassium nitrate, and allow that to crystalize until it is gunpowder. So far the internet has given me not much help. I need answers ASAP! Thanks. How do I turn soil into gunpowder?
Internet probably wont help too much. Ca(NO3)2 is relatively cheap, so noone stays up at night trying to extract it from soil. Once you do get to KNO3, you need to add granular charcoal and sulfur.

  • Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?

Gunpowder must have been introduced into Europe before the Black death, which occurred around 1349. Around that time, the Hundred Years' war was in progress and IIRC in 1347 the English used primitive artillery or cannons, to help subdue the walled city of Calais on the French side of the English channel. A primitive firearm, the arquebus, was also in use around then. Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?
Just barely before. The French and Brits were using guns during the 100 Years War, though usually as a novelty, with wooden barrels and stone projectiles. The Plague of 1348 was near the beginning of that series of wars. Was gunpowder invented before or after the Black Death?

What happens when you consume gunpowder?

Say you mistakingly took flashpowder or gunpowder to be something else and you ended up consuming it, or inhaling it, or snorting it...what would happen? Would you explode? What happens when you consume gunpowder?
no, you would probably puke before that happened, but i would be careful and not burp or fart, it could be fatalWhat happens when you consume gunpowder?
Oh boy, mistook it for a little white powder, did we? I assume you are talking about modern smokeless powder and not the traditional black kind. The smokeless powder is made of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin. The nitroglycerin is used to treat a heart ailment called angina, so there may be a drop in blood pressure, depending on how much was consumed.

Better audition song? Gunpowder and Lead, Down in Mississippi, When I Think About Cheating?

This audition is for a promotion where country music is highly accepted. I am 34 and have a powerful voice with a fairly decent range. Just need a final decision and can't seem to make one myself.Better audition song? Gunpowder and Lead, Down in Mississippi, When I Think About Cheating?
gunpowder and lead. you could totally get into that song and get everyone pumped up.

with when i think about cheating, it's more of a sobering song and while it may have a higher vocal range, it wouldn't be my pick.

maybe a leanne rhimes song? high vocals and fun songs. ie- coyote ugly soundtrack.

Why did the powder monkies had to pick up the sacks of gunpowder barefoot?

Two hundred years ago young boys called ''powder monkeys'' ran below the decks of warships to pick up sacks of black gunpowder for the cannons above. It was ship law that this task must be done barefoot. Explain the proper Physics and the reasoning behind the law and why it might be the most important law in the ship? Why did the powder monkies had to pick up the sacks of gunpowder barefoot?
    Shoes have nails.

Nailheads on th ebottoms of shoes striking other metal might spark.

one spark in a powder magazine = ship sinksWhy did the powder monkies had to pick up the sacks of gunpowder barefoot?
RT's answer may be right and sounds releasable, but some sources would need to be provided. I would say that almost no one on the ship wore shoes anyway because they didn't have traction and gun-powder was probably the most valuable thing on board so if they slipped and spilt the powder it would be rather nasty. Or maybe they boys didn't know how to keep their laces tied so they kept tripping... hey most people couldn't even read then.
because of the constant running, static would build up.the spark was enough to ignite the black powder, therefore no shoes.
Because, if they wore sandals that may create a fire hazard.
