When lightning strikes a tree, is there a smell of gunpowder?

We had what we thought was a lightning strike in versailles, ky. around 2pm. we could smell gun powder.When lightning strikes a tree, is there a smell of gunpowder?

Only if someone was storing gunpowder in the tree. No seriously! The smell should be of burnt wood. But diffferent woods smell differently.
